A great hunter and a gentleman.
COMIC was a retired Show Jumper and Hunter who had seen too many fences. He and I spent a wonderful year getting back into fitness. He had sustained too many injuries from the Hunting field and had been put out to pasture for five years, and I had had a twenty year gap since I last regularly rode.
At first it was a matter of earning his trust (his owner used to catch this horse with the aid of a brick!?), but then COMIC showed me around his downs. It was a very happy time for us both.
Although he had a magnificent head - his short legs and soup-plate feet belied his formidable skill as a Jumper.
