If you watch the rooks, they have a large and sophisticated social structure which is not unfamiliar to us.
These birds often go off in large groups to a particular spot and 'graze' together, or they might be seen in groups of twenty or thirty 'playing' in the thermals around the grain dryer.
Occassionally you might see just one bird - which is then joined by another rook rolling and gambling in the sky - could this be two youngsters expending some energy and learning, or is it courtship?
Both hand coloured and black & white etchings from the edition are available.
