... dancing with each other ... brings a smile ...
Found one morning while cycling on the horse track to the studio, this tiny corpse appeared fat and healthy, and particularly small.
When I looked up the species, my model turned out to be a Pygmy shrew. Apparently they need to eat every twenty minutes, so I guess it must have skipped breakfast ...
In response to teasing about my interest in dead animals, I always protest that there is not a figurative artist alive (or dead for that matter) who does not need to study, and what better way than with a real creature ... who isn't moving.
I decided to make this piece, describing its mortality accurately (as found), but so that the creature appeared to have life in it. It gave me pleasure then and has gone on doing so ever since!
