One early morning I came down to find that the two cats had left three dead mice on the front door mat ... as
a gift.
Had one killed two? Was the third mouse a spare from the previous day? Had they collaborated (least likely if you knew these cats)? And - most puzzling of all - why had they laid them out like an altar offering on the front door mat?
After explaining clearly to the cats that this was not what we needed - I became very interested in these mice. I made a series of etchings and then made both bronze and silver mice as well.
It does make me wonder whether the cats were right after all - I did need the mice!
