ROLLING HORSE was modelled when working in my first job in a London sculpture studio.
A man wanted a horse made, so I presumed he wanted something more unusual than the standard 'four square' version. I came up with the idea to make him a horse rolling on its back - even though reference was not easy to come by in Covent Garden!
When the piece was finished, I showed the client. He had wanted the horse standing 'four square' with its ears forward.
His reaction was disappointing for this young sculptor, so I shelved it for many years.
Later an early patron discovered the little horse and convinced me to cast it into bronze. A decision well made as it has gone on to be a much loved piece.
